Treasures in Jars of Clay
“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us” (2 Corinthians 4:7).
People keep their treasures in vaults, in banks, or in safe boxes at their homes. No one would think of keeping their valuables in a glass jar out in the open where it may get damaged or snatched, but not so with our Creator.
God made people in His image and gave the Holy Spirit as a guarantee to those who responded to Him in love. Just like a glass jar is not the best protector for a valuable item, we are not either. We are flesh and bones living in a world made up of steel and concrete. We have no protection against the negative forces around us, not to mention the invisible germs creating havoc in our bodies.
We live our lives for the Lord. Our hope comes from Him. We are weak, but He is strong in us. Our bodies may perish, but His Spirit never will. What is more, the hope that we have eternal life with Jesus can never be extinguished. Our bodies will decay, but our spirits, one with the Spirit of God, will endure forever. God is not worried about depositing His imperishable Spirit in our frail and defenseless bodies. His invisible shield is keeping us safe in Him always.
Let’s walk confidently with the understanding that nothing can destroy the treasure in us because He is watching over us.
God bless you and your loved ones!
