Spirit is Willing
“‘Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak’” (Matt. 26:41 NIV).
This verse reminds me of the struggle with sin Paul describes so well in Romans. We do what we do not want to do and do not do what we want to do. We feel convicted after we do those things because we know what we did was wrong. In that sense, we agree with the Law of God, but we continue to sin. Although our spirit, strengthened by the Holy Spirit, desires to do what is right, our sinful flesh keeps on sinning! Therefore Jesus said, “The Spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Our only hope to be saved from this sinful flesh is Jesus. He will save us completely from the tyranny of sin. Even though Jesus set us free from the slavery to sin, we commit sin. One day, when Jesus comes, He will eradicate all evil, and we will live in a sinless world.
What a glorious day it will be to be freed from the shackles of sin, Satan, and death. We will be how God created Adam and Eve in the beginning. Complete unity with our Heavenly Father, obeying Him with no difficulty and willingly. I still have a hard time imagining such a future, but the One who promised this is trustworthy. Yet, I will continue to think about such a life to come.
Will you join me?
God bless you and your loved ones!
