Foolishness
1 Corinthians 1:18 states, “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” I was one of those who thought it ridiculous that the Creator of the Universe could or would die for the people He made. That would mean weakness, not omnipotence. Submitting to the will of men? That was a wall I did not even consider climbing over.
It was arrogant and belittling to view God’s act of Salvation in Jesus as “foolishness.” The pitiful part was I was the foolish one with the eyes closed and heart hardened.
It never seems to us that way when we are in the thick of our stubbornness. We do not and cannot see it for what it is. We are in the right, right? How dare anyone oppose our convictions?
Psalm 8:4 is the humble version of the prideful question in my mind, “What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?”
It requires a heart that is open to God’s goodness that will see the plan of Salvation through Jesus’ crucifixion, burial, and resurrection as the most loving act. It is in God’s timing that the scales fall off our eyes, and we start to see: just like I did on that Sunday afternoon 15 years ago.
If you have been one of those blessed, found ones, give thanks to the Lord who is good and whose faithful love endures forever. If not, pray that God in all His mercy show you a different way to look at what Jesus did for us.
God bless you and your loved ones!
