Voices of Immigrant Teens

Book of Poems

Voices of Immigrant Teens is a compilation of poems, which were inspired by true stories shared by my immigrant high school students. They express the genuine feelings of these teens. The messages shared in this book are real, and they belong to these brave souls; I am only the messenger. With the onslaught of immigrant shaming and dehumanization in the last few years, I feel compelled to represent my students and to be their voice as an immigrant myself. I desire to introduce these precious human beings as they are … human, with ordinary hopes, fears, and struggles. In today’s global society, we need to recognize the intrinsic value of these teenagers no matter where they are from.
